Great gatsby chapter 2

Write a lengthy, descriptive paragraph in which you show case the many characteristics of the valley of Ashes. It is symbolic of something? How can it exist so close to such immense riches and opulence? Also, what is the deal with T.J. Eckleburg??? Explain.
its desolate feel and uniform grayness, this forlorn area is home to a decaying billboard that calls attention to itself. Depicted on the advertisement are the Eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, which are described as blue and gigantic their retinas are one yard high. It was in the valley of ashes that Nick first meets Tom's mistress, Myrtle Wilson.

Use the textual details to characterize Wilson. Describe his interactions w/ Tom. How does the whole situation make nick feel? How does it make you feel? Explain yourself.
Nick describes the land that lies in between the Eggs and New York as a valley of ashes which sounds really unpleasant. Nick has the distinct honor of being the only character who changes substantially from the story's beginning.

What's the symbolic significance of the dog tom gives to myrtle. Think deeply.
The relationship between a dog and a man is that of master and servant. This mirrors the relationship between Myrtle and Tom (Tom as master and Myrtle as slave)

Since Nick is our narrator the party in myrtles apartment is appreciably spotty in its narration. Choose 8 pertinent details from page 33 to the end of chapter 2 and write them in chronologiest order. Try to fill in the blanks on your own.
narrator Nick rents a house next to secretive millionaire Jay Gatsby in West Egg, Long Island. Nick visits his rich and beautiful relation Daisy Buchanan in East Egg. At one of Gatsby’s lavish parties, Nick meets his host, who he learns is in love with Daisy and has been since their fling in 1917. Nick complies with Gatsby’s request to reintroduce him to Daisy, and the old lovers rekindle their relationship, rousing husband Tom’s suspicions.

Considering the novels structure what purpose does chapter 2 serve? Explain.
The ashen quality of the community is reflected in every element including the dilapidated billboard of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, perhaps the second most memorable image in The Great Gatsby following closely behind the green light at the end of the dock.
